Arch Support and Other Things My Mother Always Told Me

My mom continues to tell me really important things, but this is one of the first things that comes to mind.  It usually went something like this:

ASHLEY
Mom.  Mom.  I really, really like these ones.

MOM
Let me see.  There is nothing to them.  They are made of plastic, and they are see-through.

ASHLEY
But everyone is wearing these kinds of shoes at school.  Please, mom, please!

MOM
No arch support.  Try these saddle shoes.

I was hopelessly in love with every flimsy shoe, and I swore I would buy every one of those shoes as soon as I was old enough.  Now that I am allowed and able to buy the highest, most impractical shoes, I can't.  I need the arch support.  Every time I try on a pair of shoes, clearance rack or otherwise, I check it: Are they cute?  Do they fit?  How's the arch support?

These lessons are always there, these little, unintentional lessons.  Thanks, Mom, for taking care of my soles.  These posts are dedicated to you.
